HANDLE WITH CARE

We all need a heads up or a bit of inspiration every now and then. Quotes are like condensed wisdom which is probably why they are so much in demand.

But quotes have to be treated with care. Lots of care.

Common Misconceptions

In this post for example we start with the letter A.

Aristotle would of course be a very prominent choice. But a very misleading one, too. Most people just choose a phrase from his scrips, because it appeals to them. Like this a lot of errors about his philosophy are conveyed since separated from the rest of the chapter the message of this one sentence is totally different. Plato’s texts meet the same fate and some even put out «quotes» by Socrates, who for all humanity knows, never published a single word. Every shred of information we have about Socrates is either from his famous pupil Plato or antique historians.

Hans Christian Andersen

Many of you will know will have heard of «The Little Mermaid» whose statue is in Copenhagen. The respective fairy tale has been written by the Danish writer H.C. Andersen (1805 – 1875).

MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO WILL WALK AFTER ME WILL BE CHILDREN, SO MAKE THE BEAT KEPP TIME WITH SHORT STEPS.
H.C. Andersen

Doesn’t this quote look like a very precise definition of one’s target customers? No doubt, Mr Andersen did understand it and his success speaks for him.
