Do What Makes You Happy and Dress for It

Mary Quant is known to be the inventor of the mini dress, which took the ’60s by storm. Before she started designing her own models, she sold fashion in boutiques, following her art studies where she also learned to create sewing patterns. Besides possessing the right education and experience, Mary loved her work.

I CAN’T IMAGINE NOT WORKING, REALLY. I JUST THINK WORK’S MORE FUN THAN FUN. – Mary Quant

Do What Makes You Happy

Everybody will tell you that one can only excel in their work if they love it. But looking around, in fact, five minutes of scrolling on LinkedIn will do, I see that only a few really walk the talk.

Mary chose to open her own business, which is one way of finding professional fulfillment. However, not everybody wants to be an entrepreneur, and there are good reasons not to take this path. Depending on your profession and your personality, working as an employee is the perfect setup.

The key to true success is happiness; not the other way around. This means you have to know what you want to do and take steps toward this goal. Maybe you are a passionate artist and you just need an income to follow your passion. This does not mean that you are doing a bad job; it only means that your raison d’être is not at your employer’s office.

YOU CAN HAVE ANYTHING YOU WANT IN LIFE IF YOU DRESS FOR IT. – Edith Head

This quote contains a lot of wisdom for three reasons:

  1. You have found out what you want to do.
  2. You are setting goals to get there.
  3. You know your style.

SHOW UP

Although we are told not to judge a book by its cover, we cannot help it.This means your star will shine brighter if you dress up for it.

FASHION IS A TOOL… TO COMPETE IN LIFE OUTSIDE THE HOME. PEOPLE LIKE YOU BETTER, WITHOUT KNOWING WHY, BECAUSE PEOPLE ALWAYS REACT WELL TO A PERSON THEY LIKE THE LOOKS OF. – Mary Quant

We are not talking about a kind of disguise to please everyone, but to find your «go-to-uniform» that lets you feel and look good effortlessly. You have to do this exercise only once and go back to what you really love doing.
